Decorate Walls with Empty Frames {6 diy ideas}

I am still obsessed with finding empty frames to decorate walls in my study!  If you have a large wall that you’d like to decorate with empty frames there is some seriously cool inspiration online.  If you’re looking to master the art of framing, here’s a taste of what I’ve found:

How to use Empty Frames to Decorate the Wall

Fancy Frame Work with empty frames from Interior Designer Serge Van Lian on StyleWhipped.  Her advice is to hang a bunch of quirky looking empty pictures on the wall just as they are, using any random order or placement.

Dwellings and Decor has several links that will inspire and teach you how to incorporate this latest trend into your own home.

I adore the book page butterflies accented inside the empty frames.  Just gorgeous!  She painted all of the garage sale pictures accumulated over the years and then collaged them on the walls. The paper butterfly’s are just cutouts from book pages stuck on with a bit of foam tacky tape.

I love how these red empty frames pop in this darling craft room from I Am Mama.  What’s really cool, is that the bottom middle frame is actually a WINDOW from her craft room into her play room!  {{genius!}}  This way Mama can keep an eye on the kiddos while she crafts.  Doo-od that is cool.

I’m re-posting this from August as I came across a few more fabulous empty frame wall collages that I just had to show you.  I hope you enjoy these wall photos, I think they’re beautiful.

    Uh, ya. I definitely need some tutorials on how to pull this off.

      It is fairly easy to pull off. I did it myself a couple weeks ago. But just collect a variety of different frames–I just went to Goodwill and my local dollar store. The color of the frames do not matter. All you need is a can of spray paint and a well-ventilated area to spray them. Then lay them out in an open space to find the arrangement you like best and then hang!

    I did something very similar on a much… smaller scale in my step-daughter’s room this summer. We loved how it turned out.

    I am so excited about this post! I seriously just scored tons of picture frames at a yard sale for 25 cents a piece! I was going to put vinyl in side of them on the Walls, but after seeing this post I know exactly what to do with them! Thanks for the inspiration!

    I absolutely LOVE this trend. I used this technique in my spare bedroom, but varied the shades of the picture frames to create a monochromatic effect. I really liked that it could fill my wall without making it look bare like one piece of art or picture would. Here is a link to my step-by-step tutorial of how I got the look:

    Very interesting idea. I never actually thought about frames being decorative in themselves. Having said that, put together in the right it does look pretty cool.

    i have been wanting to do something like this in my house for quite some time, and came up with a great twist on this project. my grandfather recently passed away, and my grandmother died about 2 1/2 years ago. my family and i have been going through all of the things in their house and found a large collection of the left-over original wallpaper in the house. my grandmother never updated the house from the way it was when they built it in the late 60′s…wallpaper was “in” then, so it was neat to find all the remnants of the vintage prints tucked away! i grew up next door to my grandparents ant spend a lot of time with them…when i think of their house, the interesting bold prints in the wallpaper stands out in my memory the most. so i am in the process of finding cool, vintage frames, spraying them white, and framing different size pieces of each of the wallpapers! when i’m done, i’ll make a collage like the ones you have posted here, except with a snippet of memories inside of each one!
