You Are Special – Red Plate

by Laurie on December 14, 2007

I am so excited to finally be able to show you that I’m giving ‘The Red Plate’ tradition as my friend gifts this year! They were so easy to make. You can order the white vinyl lettering for $2.00 on Executive Homemaker.

Basically how the tradition works, is that you use the ‘You are Special’ red plate at meal time when someone accomplishes something, gets a good grades, has a birthday, etc.

I made it out of a red charger and vinyl lettering, so you can’t eat, dishwash, or microwave this one. But it was easy on the budget and a wonderful tradition I’m excited to start with my family.

I made these cute red and white place mat purses to put them in. They were so easy and only $1.97 at Walmart. You can print out the directions for the place mat purses and the ‘The Red Plate’ for free on Executive Homemaker.

I feel like I’m giving more than a gift this year. I’m giving warm memories, and hopefully, a tradition that will last generations to come.

I hope you’ll pass on this special tradition as well. Merry Christmas!

Hi. I have friends that use the ’special plate’ idea. They also record in a journal the reason for its use each time.

Hmm… That’s a good question. I bought it years ago I believe at Linens N Things. (Maybe Bed Bath & Beyond but I think it was Linens N Things.)
