How to Make Fall Leaves out of Metal

How to Make Fall Leaves out of Metal

Re-create the look of a fall leaf using craft metal. Can be done large or small. It makes a great and easy decoration for you Thanksgiving table or to go with your other pumpkin and fall home decor. Also shows a picture of adding small leaves to grape vine and placing around a candle for a different effect. The leaf was colored using Alcohol Inks, and veins drawn for a realistic look. The edges were also colored with stamp ink. Complete directions on website.

  • Craft metal
  • good scissors
  • maple leaf template from the internet or coloring book.

  • Dry embossing tool or empty ball point pen
  • Brown ink ( I used Archival Coffee-Ranger)
  • Clear spray sealer
  • soft surface like a sheet of fun foam to draw veins on.
Just a Tip!

  • Step 1: Print out the Leaf you choose and resize to your liking and to the plate you will be using
  • Step 2: Cut out with good scissors
  • Step 3: Cover entire leaf with Sunshine yellow alcohol inks, then follow with Sunset Orange and Lettuce applied on the foam and applicator tool, dabbing in a random pattern
  • Step 4: Turn leaf over to the back and place on a piece of fun foam., Draw vein lines using a dry embossing tool, cuticle stick or empty ball point pen
  • Step 5: Spray with clear sealer Add dark brown color to age leaf. rub colored side of leaf directly over stamp pad (being gentle enough not to bend metal) I also added some drops of re-inker to the edges of the leaf and taped off with a piece of foam. dry with heat gun or hair dryer
  • Step 6: Bend leaf slightly in half vertically. Continue to give a natural shape, bend some tips upward.
