Cleaning up your rented home before moving out is a daunting task. If you don’t want to rely on professional end of lease cleaning, then you have to spare a significant amount of time, and brace yourself with a lot of patience. The best plan of action is to create a step by step weekly schedule and tackle it one room at a time. And there is no way around it, you just have to roll up your sleeves and do the cleaning.
However, there is a handy mindset you can apply to help you guarantee your bond back. Think of it as if you are just moving in, and not leaving the property. Imagine how would you like to find the abode when you first get inside. Clean all the places that will make an impression on you as a first time visitor (like the toilet bowl and bathroom sink, for example). Then, concentrate on cleaning the not-so-obvious places like behind the toilet and big appliances like the fridge and washing machine.
Allow enough time to clean the whole house, but don’t overwhelm yourself with doing it all in just one day. You will feel exhausted and the chances to miss something are much higher. In addition to the general cleaning tasks, spread out the following through the course of a week:
– remove all food from the fridge and wipe it clean
– degrease the oven and stove
– dust the window sills
– unclog the drains / neutralise any unpleasant smells using baking soda and white vinegar
– vacuum and mop under the rugs and sofas
– clear out and wipe all the cupboards
– disinfect bathroom sink and the bath tub
– deodorize the house
– clean / wash the curtains
– steam clean the carpets and upholstery
