blogging tips Inquiring Minds Want to Know

This week, I thought I’d do something a little different and cool – and do a fun Q & A.  I mean, what’s a Tip Junkie for if she’s not informative, right?

I’d be happy to answer your questions regarding blogging, Tip Junkie, life as a creative mom, raising a child with Autism, etc. It will also help me learn a little more about you and therefore make Tip Junkie more helpful. Sound fun?

How to Play: Simply ask your question in the comments and I’ll answer them in a post next week. All questions are allowed – even ones you think might be silly or only matter to you. Shoot them over and if I don’t know it myself, I’ll find someone who does. {{wink}}

What do you want to know?

Is there a way to make money with a blog (besides advertising my Etsy store)? If so, how, without having too many annoying things on the blog?

Also, how do I get buttons at the top of my blog (ones like home, projects, archives, etc…)
    Thanks so much!!

About a year ago I followed a step by step tutorial (I didn’t keep the instructions) on how to change the html coding on my blog so I would have a three column blog. Now I would like to go back to my original two column blog. Do you know how to do that without losing all of my other changes I have made?

What is the difference between “followers” and “subscribers”? Is one better than the other?

Echoing the others, how do you find the time to be creative, let alone maintain a blog.

Does it get easier as the kids get older? I have an 18 month and somedays I can barely find time to do my actual work, let alone be crafty!

How do you find all the time to be so good at what you do for your readers? The stuff you come up with is amazing and so helpful. You are such an inspiration for anyone to get on the ball and work at getting it done. As an older reader I must say I am enjoying your posts and had lost you for awhile (hacker problems) but recently found you again and I have so much catching up to do I just don’t think I can get it all done. lol Thanks for all the good you do to help others.

I’m a “newbie” when it comes to blogging, and now that I have 40+ posts…I’m ready to spread the word! How do I “make friends” with other bloggers, so we can promote one another? I’ve received one pingback which seemed like a good thing, and I’d love to “ping” some other sites…HOW? Thanks!

    Hi Laurie,

my questions are regarding comments. Do you reciprocate every comment? Or do you visit bloggers (who comment) only occasionally?
I would love to know. Thanks so much.

    Hi Laurie,
I absolutely love TJ! I was wondering what’s your favorite organization tip/trick that you use?
What’s your favorite “topic” on TJ?
    Thanks!

Hello. I have been wondering why bloggers need to use Facebook and Twitter also? What are the differences and which do you prefer?
    Thanks. Sharon

These are SO great! I’m loving all the questions and my minds all-a-buzz. I’m not sure if I can wait to answer them until next week – we’ll see if I can squeeze them in earlier.

This is your chance if you really have a burning question or something ‘that you’ve always wanted to know’. I won’t do this again until next year, so don’t miss out on getting your question answered.

    Keep ‘em coming!

    Hi Laurie,
I happened upon your blog and I love all of the usefil tips that are shared. It’s great for busy moms. :) I have a question about what I need to do to get the word out about my blog. To make a long story short, I started a blog chronicalling my journey back to Romania (where I was adopted from). Last fall we did a fundraiser yard/bake sale. I was able to return to Romania for the first time in over 18 years to reunite with my biological family. My particular goal for my blog is to get it looking more professional (a new blogger and all of this stuff is new/overwhelming). But since we are going to continue the fundraising efforts, I really want to know how I can get the word out about my blog so that we can continue to raise money for my family in Romania. On our first trip there we brought suitcases full of winter blankets, clothes, shoes, etc and from the money we were able to raise, we also bought my brother and his wife and kids food. My main goal is to continue the fundraising so that I can continue to help making my family’s living situation easier in Romania since they’re really poor.
How can I get the word out in blogland about my blog and what we’re doing, future projects, etc. I just don’t know where to start or what to do and how to reach people.

    Thank you,
    Sarah

Some of my questions have been posed about already:
    1. What’s the difference between follower and subscriber? Is one better than the other?
    2. What are the best reasons and practices for using Facebook and Twitter? I have some friends I’ve had to block because all they do is post about checking out their blog or have @somethingorother than makes no sense to anyone not on Twitter. Is it helpful or more annoying?
    3. What are your favorite resources to recommend to a newbie just getting started? Blogger vs. WordPress, finding a theme, designing blog page, getting out there, etc.
    4. Time management – how much time do you invest in blogging and still manage to lead an active life away from the computer?

    Thanks! You’re awesome!!!

We are taking our kids to Cape Cod and Boston this summer, from Ireland.

I love to do a bit of shopping/bargain hunting so…..

what are your fave shops for :
home decor (small things I can bring home in a suitcase)
    kids clothes
    womens clothes/shoes
    craft stores

    Also
    family friendly chain restaurants

Fave supermarkets and brands of food?

    That should keep you busy!

And thanks for your direct reply to my email a few weeks back – very helpful to hear from another Mum.

I’m also curious about how you stay organized. (I’m constantly jotting things down in my planner, in notebooks, and post-its, and also use email alerts, but after a while it’s easy for things to get lost in the mix.) And I’m curious about how you manage your time, and how you divide your time between various blog tasks.

I’m just starting out on my blog and I want to know how I can find a group of girls that I can bounce information with. I get uninspired sometimes because I don’t have a friend that I can talk with about blogging. (I don’t have any friends that blog.) I read your info that you gave us after you came back from Blisdom and finding a blogging group is what you suggested, but how?

    Hi,
I am a new subscriber (thanks to my mom constantly talking about Tip Junkie and forwarding me emails, lol). I love your site and can not wait to enjoy sharing with you all. I see from the above comments that you are a very giving and caring woman.
    OK, so for my questions
(already asked) How do you add tabs to the top of y our blog to organize everything
(already asked) How do you create a three column blog
I have a shophandmade shop, but am wanting to create a website / shop of my own, I am just not sure how to go about it. Is it easy to change your blog into a shop? Which websites are the cheapest but are still professional and give you what you are paying for?

I hope my questions are not confusing. I have google searched and tried to research, but everything just jumbles into one big ol mess!!! :o)

Thank you for your time and for your help.

I hope its not too late, but I just thought of another question. Does it make a difference if you upload pictures to your blog directly from your computer, or is it better to upload them to a photo site like Photobucket, then upload them to your blog from there?

Do not money to buy a car? You should not worry, just because that’s real to receive the loan to solve all the problems. So get a small business loan to buy everything you want.
