To acknowledge the transition into motherhood we began with a guestbook/photo album for guests to provide tips and wishes for mom. Instead of the typical Baby Shower games and activities, we ask attendees to fill out decorate onesies for baby, make or bring a bead with symbols to represent their wishes for the new mother to be made into a birth necklace, and carve protective runes into candles to be lit by attendees when mom goes into labor. Rather than (or in addition to) gifts, we provide cards with ideas for gifts of service they can offer to mom after the baby has arrived.
You Will Need...
- Blank onesies and fabric pens, plain candles, fimo and rubber stamps.
Provide a list of celtic runes, or other meaningful symbols for carving into candles to send thoughts for a speedy and easy labor.
Roll fimo clay into balls ahead of time for guests to make into beads for a birthing necklace.
Find new or used blank onesies and tshirts and fabric pens for guests to decorate for baby. Remember to get various sizes, as newborns grow quickly.
Tea Sandwiches and Homemade Marshmallows compliment the shower
