Currently I am on BLOGGER. But I have been thinking about switching to (maybe) WordPress. I have SO much trouble lately with uploading pictures on blogger..it irritates me to NO end. I DID answer one question with yes so according to your survey I should change to WP. BUT I would miss so many gadgets then! My followers for one. Who knows, maybe you can convince me to DO change…but till then I am still on blogger
Greetings from Marian
Pepper Ferguson
I hope you will join us for the rest of this series I think it will really help you.
I had not heard about the issue with the picture uploading, but that doesn’t surprise me as Google is focusing on developing Google+ right now and that community has unlimited uploads it may be taxing their servers.
I bet if you name some of your favorite gadgets I could share with you a equivalent wordpress plugin or one that is even better. WordPress has an amazing community developers behind it that love making state of the art gadgets. Most of the gadgets on Blogger are probably just copies of WordPress Plugins.
And you can take your followers with you. You can have a Google Friends on WordPress also. I believe I will be sharing a resource for learning how to transfer them.
I am also on Blogger. I chose it because then you don’t have to pay for hosting. And with WordPress you have to install it and host it. But I am planning on moving to WordPress in the future because there are so many more gadgets there.
Pepper Ferguson
I will be talking more about hosting and cost. I will be sharing some resources on transferring your blog. I will also be talking about installing WordPress and how it is actually pretty easy, especially if you choose the right host.
I’ve actually done a series on finding hosting, if your wanting to jump into some research right away I talk about how to research hosting companies.
I have blogger… so I am totally interested in what you have to say about wordpress! Can’t wait!!
I am currently on blogger but hope to make the switch to WordPress soon. I’m just intimidated by moving everything and then learning a new program. I don’t mind learning a new program or anything… it’s just a little nerve wracking.
Pepper Ferguson
I hope this series will help you build confidence and knowledge to help you make the move! I will be sharing more about the myths of wordpress and help you build a tool box of knowledge to get you started.
thanks for this series on WP! i bought my domain, but i’m still learning the wp tricks and i’m not quite there! so… i’m eager to find out more ! thanks so much!!!
Pepper Ferguson
I will definitely be sharing some tricks. If you have questions feel free and ask them here in the comments too! I will also be sharing some great tools and how to find great information in my last post of the series.
I just made the switch from wordpress.com to .org, and I’m so glad I did. I loved everything over at .com, and much of it’s still the same, just with more flexibility and options. I tell everyone I know who wants to start a blog to start on wordpress.
Can’t wait to see more of this series!
Pepper Ferguson
Yes Wordoress.org is so much more flexible than WordPress.com and really can cost about the same with how .com charges for extras.
SO excited about this mini-series! I’m on blogger, but I’ve been toying with the idea & looking at wordpress themes, etc over the last couple months. Can’t wait to hear what you have to share. Do you have any advice/input on mysite myway’s themes?
Pepper Ferguson
I definitely have some information on themes. I have a post about How to Slowly Invest in your Website and in another post I share about wordpress themes and the different levels of investing in them I also share on my favorite resource for themes.
YAY! I can’t wait, I just moved to WordPress an although I am loving it I know there is so much more to lean and know. I look forward to learning more…(YaY)
My main fear with WordPress is that if at some point I stop blogging all will be lost…with Blogger, since it is free, if I stop blogging…my family will still have a record of my blog for years to come!
Pepper Ferguson
Google will not keep an inactive site going forever. Plus you have no control over this. At any point they can delete your account. Or you can be like many people I have heard of that get marked as spam blogs and deleted. It will all be gone.
With either platforms if you want to keep your content forever you need to make sure and backup!. What’s nice about WordPress is you can have your blog automatically backed up and even mailed to your email account. Also if you own the space it’s never going to go away. You own it.
Interesting. I tried WordPress for free, and to be honest, I wasn’t able to do half of what I can do with Blogger. I couldn’t use any custom themes without paying for it, and Google Friend Connect’s widget didn’t work, which was really frustrating. I currently use a WP theme that has been converted to work with Blogger, and it gives me the ability to alter text/colors as I choose, something I wasn’t “allowed” to do for free with WP.
I’d venture to say if you want a free blog with full control over it, go for Blogger.
We are actually talking about wordpress.org not wordpress.com. I do not recommend wordpress.com because the cost of the extras will cost about the same as hosting.
Oh, sorry about that. The first paragraph of the article said WordPress.com. I’ve heard a paid WordPress account is good if you have the funds to do it. Makes me wonder why they even have a free version if there’s not much you can do with it, lol.
Pepper Ferguson
Thank you so much! That was an editor’s mistake. I really appreciate you pointing that out so I could fix it!
Pepper, I have been very nervous about the learning curve on WordPress but I had 5 “A’s” and only 1 “B”. Sounds like I need to get over this. SOOOO looking forward to your next posts on the subject. I also signed up for your website. I want to learn everything I can!
Pepper Ferguson
If there are specific things that you are nervous about WordPress please let me know. Would love to help you and others get past those things. If I don’t address them on this series I would like to address them on my site!
I would say unless one is blogging on ones own domain, the time spent might be a waste. The thing is when one is blogging on blogger or wordpress.com, one is actually developing content for ANOTHER person. There is no ownership. One cannot sell it, if one choses to do so.
With the cost of domain and hosting being so cheap, I don’t like the idea of using free blogs at all.
Do you understand that it’s high time to get the business loans, which will make your dreams come true.

If you want to buy a house, you will have to get the home loans. Furthermore, my brother usually takes a small business loan, which occurs to be really rapid.
