blogging tips Im Back!!

Hey Ladies!! I’ve missed you dearly and want to give you a quick update on my health. My surgery was a success and I’m recovering well. {{knock on wood}}

I had a herniated (ruptured) disc in my back, L5 S1, and therefore underwent Discectomy and Laminectomy surgery. The doctors found a bone spur that was causing the additional pain I was experiencing with my sciatic nerve running down my left leg.

Right now all is well, I can’t bend or twist which makes life a bit challenging. I’m either completely horizontal or completely vertical because it still hurts too much to sit. However, I’m so grateful to be on the road to recovery and will start physical therapy soon.

I want to thank you for your prayers, comments, and e-mails. They mean so much to me and keep me motivated to keep Tip Junkie going during this challenging time.

I hope that you’ve been inspired by some of my favorite bloggers the past 2 weeks. I’m so grateful for their friendship and just knew that they would bring fresh and fabulous tips that you would all enjoy. {{hugs to them}}

Please bear with me the next couple months as I continue to heal. Life has come to a complete halt for me and I have to constantly keep myself at a snails pace not to re-injure my body.

I have big plans for Tip Junkie and there will be new features with the Mom-preneur Shops as well as the blog layout. So stay tuned!

I’m looking forward to an amazing year full of new ideas and fun surprises. Thank you for being apart of it!

xoxo

    Laurie – I was exactly where you are about 16 months ago except mine was at L4/L5. I was so totally afraid of reinjuring myself and quite honestly still am to some extent.

    My orthopod prescribed a back brace (flexible that has a place for an ice pack to velcro in the back). I wore it for months because I needed that reminder not to bend, twist or lift more than I was supposed to. I would highly recommend getting one if they will prescribe one for you.

    My surgery was also very successful. I still have twinges of pain especially on days I do too much. But that reminds me to stop and pace myself. I doubt I’ll ever be able to do what I did ten or twenty years ago. Cleaning a 3100 SF house in one day is just not an option for me anymore. But that’s okay. Being relatively pain free is a wonderful feeling after dealing with that sciatic pain and numbness for so long.

    Hang in there! It is hard to get out of “do” mode, but it’s so worth in the end.

    Hi Laurie, Glad to see you’re on the road to recovery. I, too, had a herniated disc at L5-S1, but PT helped with that. Unfortunately, the herniated discs in my neck didn’t fare as well. I had discectomy and fusion at C5-C6 and C6-C7 last May.

    My best advice is to borrow audiotapes from the library, as well as DVD’s of fun and uplifting movies. I listened to a fantastic audiobook last year called Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenidis. (It was probably 8-10 CD’s long, but such a great story!)

    I am with Rachael and her comment, my surgery was 3 years ago, same as you L5 S1! I will tell you I am so glad I did the surgery, it is amazing to be free from the pain that existed before. I still have my moments, but that is a reminder for me to slow down and or be more body conscious as to my body mechanics and what or how I am doing something.
    I am thrilled to see your smiling face and know know know that you are going to do amazing in your recovery process.
    Know that there are lots of great prayers, great vibes and great thoughts surrounding you each and every step of the way.
    (think Tony Little the Glider exercise guy…..) YOU CAN DOOOOOO IT! :)
    Be good to you – it’s just life happenin where you are, the rest is just details!
