This is Echo, an 8 year old Boston Terrier. This year she is poised to strike in her handmade Scorpion costume!
To create this look, her measurements were taken, neck, torso length, waist. Then, a pattern was made based off of a Thunder Shirt she has. She hates thunderstorms, poor baby.
A very stretchy knit fabric was used for the bodice with velcro to secure the neck and waist areas. 6 latex scorpion legs were sewn with a double needle to the bodice. Stuffing and wire were incorporated into the tail and claws for shape.
Both the scorpion latex and bodice colors were chosen to match Echo’s natural brindle color for a more “realistic” effect.
The back of the scorpion is secured at the neckline with stitching and the tail is secured with a nylon strap under Echo’s belly.
To add to the effect, this picture was taken on a dried out Kansas baseball field to mimic a desert look.
