I just discovered your blog-love all the tips and new links I am discovering.
One of the links I clicked on had some great tips for saving money in these hard times. One of her suggestions was to get a haircut at a beauty school-great advice. However, after reading the entire post I found myself a tad upset with the poster. What I’m about to say is in no way meant to be nasty or mean spirited. I just would like to point out something. I have not been thru cosmetology school nor do I work in the service industry-I am fortunate enough not to have to work.
Anyway, the story-
This person went to a beauty school got a haircut for $10.00 and a free eyebrow waxing because she had a coupon. She tipped the stylist $1.00-$1.00!!!! I realize these are very trying times and everyone is trying to save and cut wherever they can-but I myself found this very insulting. How long did it take this poor student to get your haircut correct, how many times was she/he corrected by the instructor (perhaps embarrassing them)? Okay I think it’s great you got your eyebrows waxed for free-did you tip the person that did that and did you base the tip on what the eyebrow waxing and haircut would have been without the coupon?
Going through cosmetology school is not cheap-it can cost anywhere from $5000 upwards. Some of these people put in full days at school and then go home to their own families (after paying for child care) and have a full time job of taking care of their families-same as you. Or for the ones not so fortunate-after a full day of school they go to a job to help get them through school.
So you ask what is my point-would it really have broken anyone’s budget to throw another dollar to this person? I realize everyone is hurting, but please think of the service person when you find a great way to cut cost for yourself.
Again, I am not bashing this person or her tip-it’s a great way to save money. But please think about the other person who may just have it far worse than you. I’m sure I’m going to get blasted for having said all this, but I think it’s important to put ourselves in the other person’s shoes.
That’s my tip for the day!

Ok.. after reading that comment about the hair-school thing I just have one thing to say. They need those people to come in and get their hair done. They need the practice. If your a nurse and your in nursing school you don’t get tipped at the end of the day. You are paying for school to get educated. It is the same thing. You are in school, you are lucky to get a tip at the end of the day. That is just the way I look at it. I mean I don’t go to get my hair done at a hair school but my sister went throught school and didn’t expect tips and was thankful when she got them.
I love the crafty ideas that were used for some of these settings. It gives a personal touch and sparks conversation.
One remembers that today’s life is very expensive, but some people require money for various things and not every one gets big sums money. So to receive quick credit loans and college loan will be a right way out.
