Trade Secrets Swap

by Laurie on August 24, 2009

A trade secret is a formula, practice, process, design, instrument, pattern, or compilation of information which is not generally known or reasonably ascertainable.  Tip Junkie shares creative womens ‘trade secrets’ and tips every day.  Now you can join in the fun!

Tip Junkie is hosting it’s first swap (or product exchange).  I named it “Trade Secrets” because we are “trading” our favorite tips or secrets that are unique to us.

Here’s how you can participate:

  • Make or purchase at least three objects that you consider your favorite trade secrets.
  • Mail it to your swap partner before November 1, 2009.

They could include (but are not limited to) your favorite party favor you make regularly, gift idea, beauty product, craft, home décor idea, recipe, scrap craft, book, etc.  Please limit the product total (not including shipping) to under $25 and only send items you would love to receive yourself.

Have a great time with it and most importantly be creative.  Be sure to include a nice note to your exchange partner and feel free to wrap each product, and decorate the box in a theme.  {{optional}}

How to join the swap: Fill out the contact form enter.

Important dates:

  • Deadline to sign up:  October 1st
  • Receive your swap partner:  October 5th
  • Deadline to mail your package:  November 1st

Once you receive your package, be sure to post photos on Tip Junkie’s Flickr Account , for everyone to enjoy!

Get your swap product featured on Tip Junkie:

If you’ve made your item(s), be sure to make a tutorial about it (with pictures) and post it to your blog.  Contact me with your post link under “other” using the form.  These special entries will be featured on Tip Junkie as this is the purpose – to share your knowledge so we can all learn something new!

Grab a swap button!

I’ll need your help to promote Tip Junkie’s ‘Trade Secrets’ swap.   Be sure to grab the ‘Trade Secrets’ button and post it on your side bar.  Huge thanks to all who participate and help promote.

Hi Laurie,
This is my first blog comment ever on any site! I found your website over the weekend and I absolutely love it! Is it possible to find out where to buy some of the supplies in the swap examples you gave? I am specifically interested in the small clear paint can that was used in Jamie’s gift to Lisa under Sue’s Witch Switch gifts 2007. Also, were all of the items in the photo on the right inside the can?
Thanks for you time,
Lori

Lori May,

Welcome to the blogging community! You’re going to love it. I found a link where you can buy the small clear paint can for $3. Here’s the link:

Yes, usually you take a picture of all the items you made/purchase and then how it was packaged (if you go OTT). However, that can must be a large can because I don’t think all of that loot would fit in a small one.

The large can is only $6

Hi,

Just so you know, for the last couple weeks, my updates from you (through feedblitz) were an error, saying that there was a problem redirecting, but it wasn’t clear which blog it was and I subscribe to alot…I finally figured it out and unsubscribed myself so I do’nt receive those anymore, but you may want to try and fix that so you don’t lose all your subscribers who signed up through feedblitz.

Thanks,
Tracy

Tracy – Thank you so much for letting me know. When I changed over from .blogspot to .com, I went into Feedblitz to update my RSS feed and they wouldn’t let me unless I paid them an outrageous fee every month.

Please uppdate your RSS Feeds (e-mail & Google Reader) with the new Wordpress blog by clicking on the “Subscribe” link on the right tool bar at the top of the Tip Junkie blog.

Thank you so much and I apologize for the inconvenience.

oh man, I really love swapping! But the contact form is not a secure website :( Is there someone we could email that info to instead?
Thanks!

It’s not secure!?! I’ll talk to my webmaster and get that fixed.

Yes, you can e-mail me the info and I’ll manually upload your info to the database.

Just wondering- do we need to have a blog to participate & if we do have a blog but it is private does that make a difference?

This sounds like so much fun!!!
Thanks

No, you don’t have to have a blog to participate. I just realized that field in the form is required. Just put in http://none.com

I think that should work.

I just found your wedbsite today and I love it. Could someone explain to me in more detail about the swap: who, how, where, when, etc. Thanks in advance.

Basically who ever signs up with be assigned a person to send a package to. In return, another person (who also signed up) will be sending you a package. The package should have at least 3 things inside it that cost less than $25. So it pays to be creative. Just make sure the items are something that you would like to receive.

You have until October 1st to sign up, and until November 1st to post mark your package (mail it).

The theme is “trade secrets” so it can be any of your favorite things. For instance, I make beaded bookmarks. Everyone that sees them asks me how I make them. Since I came up with the idea on my own – I consider it my trade secret. Of course, I share how I make them, but they are unique to me. That is just one example of what you can put in the package. Sky’s the limit.

I am wondering if she just doesn’t have it all ready yet because I also signed up but haven’t heard anything. I figure she has until midnight! ; D

Thanks Lyndi – No, I don’t quite have it ready yet. My programmer was out of town all last week and he’s the one with access to the database with all your info on it.

I’ll be partnering people up and getting it out to each of you within the next couple days. {{squeal in delight}}

I’m anxious to get started as well!

I am almost positive that I signed up, but have never gotten a partner. Just making sure that I did it correctly, as I realize the deadline is tomorrow, but haven’t heard anything. Let me know.
